The Three F's Group (Fitness, Fun and Fellowship)
The 3Fs group is set up primarily for the elderly and disabled. Its objective is to help individuals improve
and maintain physical flexibility at the same time giving them an opportunity to enjoy friendship.
On arrival, people are greeted with a smile and, if required, given help in the lift into the hall. Here
they can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and a biscuit. A professional trainer then leads about a one hour session
of very gentle exercise which can be done either seated or standing, to popular background music. The group are
encouraged to do as much as they can but there is no pressure if it is felt one person prefers to sit and watch.
The session ends with a light lunch.
The church has a large lift to the hall, there is a toilet for the disabled and the hall has an audio
loop system.
Our trainer is fully qualified and insured. Our senior staff have had criminal background checks enabling
them to work with vulnerable adults.
The group started in July 2010 and has a weekly attendance of between 20 and 30. Both men and women attend
and the vast majority are in their 80s with a few in their 90s.
When someone arrives for the first session, there is no charge. It is an opportunity to view what is done,
to meet the people and to saviour the atmosphere. There is a £3.50 charge for subsequent sessions,
which is totally inclusive of drinks, exercise and meal.
We are currently working with Disability Direct to assist those who have problems with transport to
and from the church.
